Serial Innovator - MySQL Database Engineer in Chicago, IL

As a MySQL Database Engineer, you'll work on very large, high concurrency database implementations with both realtime and offline (reporting and analytics) processing requirements. The ideal candidate for this exciting, hands-on position will have at least 5 years of extensive MySQL database design, implementation, query optimization, troubleshooting and tuning experience and an interest in working with the top LAMP team in Chicago. You'll need exceptional organizational skills, excellent communication, and an open perspective on the integration of SQL and noSQL databases. The ability to both lead and work independently are critical. We are an Agile shop and utilized large numbers of both dedicated and cloud based resources. This is a hands on position where you will have an opportunity to not only design industry leading architectures but also implement them. - Develop complex SQL queries
- Query performance tuning and optimizations
- DB Administration tasks including installation, configuration, performance tuning and optimization, database maintenance, troubleshooting, business continuity and disaster recovery
- Performance Tuning/Capacity Planning
- DB and application (written primarily in PHP) trouble shooting
- Help create standard operational procedures for a rapidly growing team and infrastructure Desired Skills & Experience - BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- Experience administering large MySQL 5.x databases environments
- Strong knowledge of database administration duties including installation, configuration, performance tuning and optimization, database maintenance, troubleshooting, business continuity and disaster recovery
- Experience providing support in a 24x7 environment and willing to be on-call for production escalations
- Previous experience deploying MySQL in cloud-hosting environments such as Amazon Web Services helpful
- Deep knowledge of Linux, web server, and MySQL tuning and performance optimization
- Great written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to quickly diagnose and/or resolve problems
- Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment
